Fall Semester Starting

Well it is that time of year again!

And it is kicking my butt! I just healed from throwing out my back (I have never hurt my back that badly - with the exception of when I first blew out my lumbar disks back in my early 20's) - was completely out of work for 2 months, and just started going back to work the same week that the fall semester started ... talk about a double whammy!

And then this weekend, had to deal with having the FLU - because I bragged about not getting sick, so the universe needed to spank me and take me down a few pegs I guess LOL. So maybe that is a triple whammy, now that I think about it, LOL.

Trying to finish up my commissions cuz I know how I get when I'm all focused on school ... I tend to just go to work and do homework and sleep ... so figuring that's just par for my course, hee!

I have like 5 ATC swaps I'm working on as well and trying to get a bunch of Halloween / spooky art done in time for a Halloween show at a local art gallery that is doing a collective Halloween show and then organizing the Fall/Autumn online show for the OG as well (thank the gods I'll have help with that one!) ... sooo yeah. My head is spinning!

But I suppose I'd prefer being busy as opposed to not .. and my tiny little container garden this year is kicking butt!

Hopefully I will find time to finish this next batch of comic ACEOs / sketch cards .... here is a peek of the WIPs that I haven't had any time to finish yet ...

Okay so I really don't do as much fairy art as I probably should (I know! I know! - if there was ever anyone that should be doing gobs and gobs of it, it's me, right? LOL!) ... soo this I did precisely for that reason ... because I really *ought* to be doing more fairy art.

So here's a cute and pretty fairy for those of you that love the lighter side of the fey ... I keep meaning to go to deeper places with this sort of theme, but I just can't seem to find anything with enough substance in me to do it justice yet ... maybe someday though!

Anyways, I like this one enough to list her, lol.

Yay! This one was a long time in coming ... school and a variety of other things kept delaying it so I was sooo happy to finally get it done!

And now with school out - I can start painting more and doing some sculpting! Kinda curious if I can finish a few sculpts this summer!

Yup - I actually have some art hung up at a local gallery in a full fledged show with other artists - and it has been a long long long time!!

I am really out of my league and am rather intimidated by how freaking GREAT they all are, but i figured, well, even if my art does suck compared to theirs ... so what? LOL!

But yeah, these artists are AMAZING - it's an honor to be allowed to show alongside of them!

I did take a couple of pictures of my work on the wall and of my prints on the shelf ... but for some reason I was all stupid and didn't take a picture of my art on the shelves .... ah well!

Here's the wall that my pieces are hung, they are the 4 on the far right ...

I am in LOVE with the top two larger paintings ... aren't they exquisite??

I thought it looked pretty cool,but then I am most assuredly biased, hee hee!

The show runs until June 8th, so it will be up for a little bit ... which is pretty exciting for me!

Playing with my toys

This weekend was fun, I got a few new "toys" - an UV light and UV resin that is designed for jewelry to start testing out for eyes.

Hoping to finish up my commissions this week and get to start on my ADO steampunk challenge and finish my OG challenge for making a little beastie as well.

But it is nice to finally be feeling better and get some free time to work on making art!

It's been a long couple of years - money has been tight, and things were not going very well for a long time. Seemed like there was just something going wrong at EVERY bend. It was very draining, very sad, and very challenging.

But it seems my tunnel is seeing some light at long last. Things have been greatly improving near the end of 2010 and things just seem to FINALLY be going my way - and the constant pressure on me has eased greatly.

I might even get an actual diagnosis for my health issues that have been plaguing me for the past 2 years severely enough to land me in the hospital a few times. I'm not real crazy about it, and really not liking what they might have to do to fix me, but ... at least I'd know and it might be ABLE to be fixed! lol

It's just been about 2 years since my heart and soul felt this light and joyful. It seems like the future is bright and that all the things that faltered and fell apart are coming back together and that things are not going wrong as a rule these days.

THANK THE HEAVENS. I feel like I can finally breathe again without cringing and feeling that something was going to kick me at every corner. I feel free and happy and productive ... and THAT hasn't been true for like the last 3 years so I am really glad to have that part back.

My muse is bubbling away, and has actually been throwing a few fits - Yay! Just hope this trend continues, cuz lord knows, I have more than paid my dues to have some good times and things come my way, LOL!

Just really need to knock out my two commissions and then start playing ... 2011 I think is going to be a FUN year for me! :)

Really getting an itch to start sculpting again ... toying with the idea of setting a goal to sculpt one thing a month - just to start getting used to finishing things.

It's ridiculous really how slow I am and how many WIPs I have that are still not finished.

I think I need to just start making it a priority to sit down with my clay and have a go at it on a regular basis with a goal of finishing the pieces more than I have been.

The note telling me about it was SO sweet and it just made my day!

ADO Challenge - Wonderland

So I actually DID make this deadline - and I actually finished the DOLL on the morning of the 8th!

You cannot imagine HOW freaking PROUD I am of myself.

Sadly I did get pretty sick - went home from work even which I try to never do - and have been down with a nasty flu bug until this morning. So I was not able to post my pictures up until now … but at least I’m feeling much better so yay anyways!

Anyways … here’s my challenge doll …

Hopefully I will get better pictures of him soon - I didn’t get time to finish his base, and I screwed up his platter to hold the teacup and teapot, and I need to get some mousse to style his hair and then deal with the whole unbalanced issue and whatnot … but still, I FINISHED A DOLL BY A DEADLINE!!!

Which - if you do not know me - you cannot understand what a MONUMENTAL achievement that is for the likes of myself! LOL!

Stop eBay from grabbing your images!!!

IMPORTANT TO READ FOR EBAY ARTIST MEMBERS!!!

I know that some of you are probably on eBay and I got this email in another group I belong to so thought it might be helpful for some of you. Basically, it seems that eBay will be taking your photos, images, etc. and putting them in an online catalog that any eBay user can use for their own listings. You might scroll down and read this if it applies to you - and the steps that are listed to show you how to correct that. Apparently, you have until only August 31st to change your settings!

This was on another Board and I followed the instructions and yes indeed, my default for eBay using any of my photos was on "yes." Follow the steps below to disable this. Notice that this would include photos of your art product, your photography. ..all go into a general photo bank that ANYONE can use to illustrate their sale item. Please share this with anyone you know who sells on eBay.

If you sell anything on eBay, you need to read this warning about how eBay plans to use your listing photos without creators' permission!!!

Starting on August 31st, eBay is going to institute a new policy where photos you upload to any listing are put into a "catalog" of online images that any eBay user can then use for their own listings. The default setting for this is opt-in, which is a problem if you, like me, consider your photographs your property and want to control how they are used and by whom.

A copyright notice is posted with a link to your user profile, but no additional information is given, and the link is quite small.

Since the default setting is opt-in, and EBAY HAS NOT SENT MESSAGES OUT ABOUT THIS!

A lot of people are going to be caught flat-footed by this new policy.

Again, the default for this setting is YES, you have opted in. Meaning "Yes, I will allow eBay to make my photos available for anyone to use."

If you do not want eBay to make the photos you upload to all of your future auctions available to other users in a sort of catalog process, you need to go change your settings *NOW*, before August 31st! If you opt out after that date, any photos you upload between the 31st and when you opt out will still be eligible for inclusion in their "catalog."

In order to opt out of this so-not-okay process, do the following. Hopefully your eBay pages look like mine. (I followed this easily)

1) Go to your eBay summary page ("My eBay").

2) On the left-hand side, there are three tabs that say "Activity," "Messages," and "Account." Hover over the "Account" tab. (I did not need to hover, hovering did nothing for me, if yours doesn't either, just go to the third step.)

3) A drop-down list will appear. Move your mouse down to "Site Preferences" and click. (Mine was simply listed under the Account section, again I did not need to hover, hovering did nothing for me)

4) You will be taken to a page with a list of site options for selling, shipping, and listing. About the sixth from the top is "Share your Photos." Click on the word "Show" on the right hand side next to this option.

5) The box will expand, and if you are opted in, "Yes" will appear. If you are opted out, "no" will appear. A small "Edit" link will appear below the "Show" link. If you want to change the settings, click "Edit."

6) You will be taken to a new page with the following text: If you'd like to opt-out of this program, please do so by checking this box and clicking the "submit" button below. (If you opt-out before August 31, 2009, none of your photos will be considered for inclusion in this program unless you opt back in at a later time. If you opt-out after August 31, 2009, any photos we select for inclusion in this program prior to your opt-out may continue to be used in the catalog)

7) If you want to opt out of the program, check the checkbox on the left-hand side next to the text, then go down and click the "Submit" button.

8 ) You will go back to the settings screen you were just on, and there will be a green checkmark and a confirmation message. Go down to the "Share your Photos" option again and click "Show." Your setting should now appear as "No."

I am sure that this will be a useful feature for some people, for some items, but the automatic opt-in is not okay with me at all, as I don't want my photographs used to illustrate someone else's auction for a different item, not for any reason whatsoever.

I thought you should all be warned.

My first Mermaid OSWOA!

So I'm exploring the format of a piece as an OSWOA (Original Small Works Of Art) - where the main rule pertains to it's size, as it must be 4x6 inches.

Decided to do a mermaid and boy you can get a lot more detail in this as compared to an ACEO or ATC lol!
